About Ethereum
Ethereum is a programmable blockchain that introduced smart contracts — code deployed on-chain that executes exactly as written. Most of the DeFi, stablecoin and NFT ecosystem is built on it or on networks that settle back to it. Ethereum switched from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake in 2022, cutting its energy use dramatically. ETH pays for computation on the network and can be staked to help secure it.
