Dogecoin started in 2013 as a joke built on Litecoin's code, using the Shiba Inu meme as its mascot. It has no supply cap: a fixed number of coins is issued every year, making it mildly inflationary by design. Blocks are fast and fees are low, so it works reasonably well for small transfers and tipping. Its price has historically been driven more by attention and social media than by protocol development.
